Micro Needling (derma rolling)

I will be giving one of these away in my first lucky draw, I thought I would explain what it's used for...

Micro needling also known as derma-rolling, is used to improve skin tone and condition, it is successful in treating skin conditions like acne scarring, stretch marks, hyper-pigmentation and anti-aging and even hair loss.
The best part is that this treatment can be done successfully at home without the need for expensive salon visits.

The theory behind micro needling is that creating tiny puncture wounds in the skin tricks the body's immune system into producing collagen and also elastin, to heal the punctures, as it would in the case of a real wound!

A derma roller, looks like a tiny steam roller covered with hundreds of super fine needles. The rolling action gives a gentle massage and as you roll the device over the skin, tiny punctures are made in the top layer of skin without damaging the skin. This action stimulates blood flow to the area, cleans out pores, and stimulates collagen production which results in younger, healthier skin.

Using your derma roller at home is not complicated, but please remember that this is a personal care device and should not be shared, and not used on active acne, or skin lesions, or sunburnt skin. Your device must be cleaned by rinsing under hot running water, and soaked in a sterilizing solution for a few minutes, follow the instructions that come with your device.

*When using for the first time, it's better to become familiar with your roller and the action to use it on your body, and as you become confidant handling your roller, you can start on the delicate face area.

Cleanse the area to be treated thoroughly, you can apply a light layer of skin treatment creams or serums and then holding the skin taught, lightly roll the the derma roller over the area back and forth in a horizontal and vertical manner several times, do not press down on your roller hard, this will not make it work any better, and can hurt your skin.
The benefits of any treatments or serums you might use will be increased as they are pushed deeper into the skin, so take this into account when you dispense an amount to apply, you don't need to use a lot. Once you are done treating one area, move on to the next, and when treatment is complete, you can apply moisturizer or you can apply your treatments at this time if you opted not to apply at the beginning.

Immediately after treatment, try to stay out of direct sunlight, and use a good quality, high SPF sunblock for the next several days to protect skin, if you have done a treatment on your face this is especially important, and try to stay away from make up for a few days, but if you absolutely cannot, then use a good quality mineral based make up!

What to expect when you micro needle:
You should not experience pain of any kind, a mild tingly sensation is totally normal, and you may experience a reddening of the skin, like a mild sunburn, but this should disappear after a few hours.
Used regularly you will see a visible improvement in 4 to 5 weeks, and skin will continue to improve for up to 6 months after you have stopped using your derma roller.

****Your derma roller should only be used on healthy skin. DO NOT use on broken skin, skin with active acne or skin infections, over moles or rashes. ****

Regular Treatment will give you improved skin tone, added radiance, improve stretch marks, scarring(ESP pitted scars) and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Winter nails green

Sparkly green nails,
As you can see I'm all into glitter nail polish, it looks stunning and the glitter makes any colour polish really stand out,

This look is perfect with for a night at the movies, paired with jeans, and a chunky jersey, and your good to go....,

Winter nails

Warm up this weekend with a stunning red nail polish,
For a night out follow up with a single coat of a glitter polish!
The result Is a lovely warm and shiny red nail!
Remember ladies, always use a good base coat to stop your nails from getting stained!
I'm loving Sally Hansen No Chip Nail Color in 350heart to Heart and
Vermis Vao in Vivacious for this winters reds. Both are available on www.rubybox.co.za

A tip to remove glitter polish, break cotton into pieces small enough to just cover nail, then soak in polish remover and apply to nail, cover each nail and cotton with a piece of glad wrap or foil an leave for ten minutes, this stops the polish remover from evaporating and allows it to soften the polish for easy removal, then take of glad wrap or foil and wipe off the cotton, most of the polish will come away with it!
Then it's just a matter of wiping with cotton until your nails are clean!

Happy colors! Send me pics of your warm red nails!!!

My journey to clear skin, part 1

Acne, my story, part one

A little bit of background information on me, my mum is medical doctor, an we have a lot of doctors and nurses in out immediate family, so I have had access to every available product on the market, and even some that were not available in South Africa from when my mum went for doctors courses over seas!!

My acne started when I was just at the tender age of 11 years old, can you believe it 11?

At that time, after consulting with lots of family doctors including a dermatologist it was decided to treat it with just medicated products, my mum got me mild acne fighting facial washes and moisturizers,
After a year on various milder products, my acne only got worse as time went by, it was a nightmare

At age 12 the acne had spread to my chest and back, and it was starting to affect my confidence and performance at school, so my mum decided to start to start me on antibiotics,
my back started to clear up but not by much and I stayed on those for 8 months, on and off,
At 13 years my acne was at it's all time worst, it had spread to my inner thighs and buttox area, and the acne was inflamed and painful with bleeding, I could not wear white or light color T-shirts as the puss would dry to them and look horrible, this is when the teasing started at school, I did not want to leave my bedroom, my confidence was at an all time low, and I hated myself,
I could not understand how my older sister and brother had not a single pimple,
kids would tease me, saying that I didn't bath, or that I didn't wash properly, that I was dirty....
I started to squeeze my pimples regularly so they would not ooze when I was out in public, and starting using an orange sack to wash myself, and I would scrub at my skin until it was raw, I began having a bath 3 to 6 times a day, and on top of all this I started suffering from hyperhidrosis which is a condition that causes excessive sweating.
This was a nightmare period of my life and till today I'm not sure how I got through it!

Weddings

So we had a wedding in the family this weekend,
Weddings I have found either bring out the best, or worst in people!

This wedding was decided around ten days before it actually took place, and it was wonderful to see the entire family pulling together to pull it off. Everyone stepped up, and took responsibility for a specific part of the function, even the little kids, 3-7 years old helped to set tables an prepare the gifts to give away on the day!
All in all, even though it was highly stressful due to the short notice, the function itself went off well because everyone came together with the goal of giving these two young people a wonderful day that will be a memory for them to cherish for years to come!
It taught me that if everyone works toward the same goal, instead of everyone doing there own thing, we can achieve great things!

At home hair removal

Hi,

My first blog, I decided to go with a product that has literally changed my life!

So like a lot of other ladies out there, I am always looking for a better way to get rid of my unwanted hair, I have shaved, waxed, and epilated my skin, dealt with wax that was too hot, chemical irritation from hair removal creams, cuts and nicks from shaving, not to mention that burn when you apply anti perspirant after a shave,

Thankfully the scientists at Syneron have come up with a better way! ELOS, electro-optical synergy that uses two modalities to permanantly stop hair growth, IPL and RF (radio Frequency) combine to effortlessly and painlessly put an end to all our hairy problems.

And the actual treatment is super duper easy, just run the elos lamp slowly across the skin, and the My Elos does all the work for you,

I experienced a 50% hair loss on my legs after just 4 treatments.

I was so impressed that I have started reselling the machine in JHB

Special on for June, buy a Tanda My Elos for R6000 and get a FREE Tanda Zap to clear up acne!
