I will be giving one of these away in my first lucky draw, I thought I would explain what it's used for...
Micro needling also known as derma-rolling, is used to improve skin tone and condition, it is successful in treating skin conditions like acne scarring, stretch marks, hyper-pigmentation and anti-aging and even hair loss.
The best part is that this treatment can be done successfully at home without the need for expensive salon visits.
The theory behind micro needling is that creating tiny puncture wounds in the skin tricks the body's immune system into producing collagen and also elastin, to heal the punctures, as it would in the case of a real wound!
A derma roller, looks like a tiny steam roller covered with hundreds of super fine needles. The rolling action gives a gentle massage and as you roll the device over the skin, tiny punctures are made in the top layer of skin without damaging the skin. This action stimulates blood flow to the area, cleans out pores, and stimulates collagen production which results in younger, healthier skin.
Using your derma roller at home is not complicated, but please remember that this is a personal care device and should not be shared, and not used on active acne, or skin lesions, or sunburnt skin. Your device must be cleaned by rinsing under hot running water, and soaked in a sterilizing solution for a few minutes, follow the instructions that come with your device.
*When using for the first time, it's better to become familiar with your roller and the action to use it on your body, and as you become confidant handling your roller, you can start on the delicate face area.
Cleanse the area to be treated thoroughly, you can apply a light layer of skin treatment creams or serums and then holding the skin taught, lightly roll the the derma roller over the area back and forth in a horizontal and vertical manner several times, do not press down on your roller hard, this will not make it work any better, and can hurt your skin.
The benefits of any treatments or serums you might use will be increased as they are pushed deeper into the skin, so take this into account when you dispense an amount to apply, you don't need to use a lot. Once you are done treating one area, move on to the next, and when treatment is complete, you can apply moisturizer or you can apply your treatments at this time if you opted not to apply at the beginning.
Immediately after treatment, try to stay out of direct sunlight, and use a good quality, high SPF sunblock for the next several days to protect skin, if you have done a treatment on your face this is especially important, and try to stay away from make up for a few days, but if you absolutely cannot, then use a good quality mineral based make up!
What to expect when you micro needle:
You should not experience pain of any kind, a mild tingly sensation is totally normal, and you may experience a reddening of the skin, like a mild sunburn, but this should disappear after a few hours.
Used regularly you will see a visible improvement in 4 to 5 weeks, and skin will continue to improve for up to 6 months after you have stopped using your derma roller.
****Your derma roller should only be used on healthy skin. DO NOT use on broken skin, skin with active acne or skin infections, over moles or rashes. ****
Regular Treatment will give you improved skin tone, added radiance, improve stretch marks, scarring(ESP pitted scars) and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
